Wallsten analyzes the vertical merger of NBC-Comcast. Because Comcast will retain free over-the-air broadcast of NBC, the horizontal merger areas are not of major concern. “The vertical aspect is the combination of a video producer (NBCU) and a video distributor (Comcast),” which is the area Wallsten focuses. He is of the opinion that vertical mergers can have both pro-competitve and anti-competitive effects.

As frustrated iPhone users are coming to hear the news today that Apple will give away free cases to iPhone 4 purchasers between the original launch date and September 30th. That means if you have already purchased a case from Apple you can receive a refund. Apple reports there will be a place on the Apple.com site toward the end of next week to request a refund or a free bumper if you have yet to purchase one.

A senator criticized the FCC last week saying that the FCC’s National Broadband Plan was leading us to second tier status, but there are a few problems with this. For one thing, it’s based on the grossly exaggerated broadband speeds and prices of other nations. The other problem is that the FCC doesn’t control the purse strings.
