Research: Innovation Policy on a Budget

The authors suggest that government investment in science, technology and education should not be decreased and that the U.S. government should actually increase direct funding or incentives via tax credits to research and design in these areas.

Research: 9 States Join Trade Associations Against Video Game Ban

Nine states have joined together to file a brief to the U.S. Supreme Court opposing the California ban on violent video games. The brief was submitted by Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch. Other states included on the brief were Arkansas, Georgia, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, Washington, and also signing was Puerto Rico.

Research: Supreme Court: Schwarzenegger v. Video Games

The U.S. Supreme Court has set a date to hear Schwarzenegger V. EMA. The hearing will take place on November 2nd and marks the very first time the Supreme Court has ever heard a case on the topic of banning video games.

Research: Strict Privacy Regs for Online Ads Harmful

Castro believes that current legislation on advertising could be detrimental for online businesses. Stricter privacy regulation for online advertising could reduce money that goes toward supporting free content or inexpensive content as well as applications and services. Castro also feels that this could reduce start up funding and the effectiveness of advertising.

Australia Backs National Broadband Network

A 2-week deadlock to decide who was running the show down in Australia ended today. One of the big issues on the table was what to do with the National Broadband Network, the $43 billion project that I discussed here last week.
