Facebook’s Email is “Social Inbox”

By Nick R Brown 15 November 2010 One Comment

Facebook was thought to be launching a Gmail rival today reported to be “FBmail.com”.  What they have actually launched is what they are calling their Social Inbox.  Facebook will be providing everyone an @facebook.com that corresponds to their personalized Facebook account name, i.e. facebook.com/whateverthisiswillbeyouremailaddress.

Essentially what Facebook has done is to connect text/sms, messaging, chat, and email.  The technology works so that any message sent to a person on your network will reach the contact by whatever means they are using at that time.  Additionally your contact information can be protected from certain individuals, meaning that you can categorize the priority of your incoming messages and also have messages bounced from your inbox that are not on your friends list or that have been OK’d.

Will this revolutionize the way you connect with your friends and colleagues?
