Opportunities and Innovations in the Mobile Broadband Economy
The Information Technology & Innovation Foundation
Scott Andes and Daniel Castro
September, 2010

Andes and Castro believe that the mobile broadband network has finally reached a point at which “high-value applications” are becoming more of the norm.  This is due not only the networks but also because of mobile devices becoming more powerful and fast enough to handle in depth applications.  Because of these things the authors believe we are about to see a huge boon in services, business models, and applications.

The authors discuss specific technologies and investments that have and will make this new advancement in apps and services possible.  They then discuss the types of opportunities that will develop from the advancement of mobile broadband, including:

  • Education
  • Energy
  • Health
  • Transportation
  • Accessibility for the Disabled
  • Increased Access for Low-Income Individuals
  • Mobile Wallets, Mobile Banking and Mobile Commerce
  • Developing Economies

The authors believe that mobile broadband is “expanding the digital frontiers far beyond what was even imaginable a few short years ago.”
