The High-Speed Services for Internet Access is a report compiled by the FCC to monitor high-speed Internet expansion.  The FCC and the states were directed to encourage deployment of new Internet technologies with the release of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.  This paper is part of a data collection program that was instituted in 2000 to monitor deployment.

Notable research in the report includes:

  • Total subscribers by technology
  • Residential subscribers by technology
  • Connection speeds of residential and business connections
  • Census tract and county shares of households with high-speed connections
  • Maps of high-speed providers by census tract
  • Household adoption rates and subscribership demographics
