Mr. Deer,

John Deer said: "Maybe you (George Ou) should go back to working at Best Buy."
http://www.digitalsociety.org/2009/11/fcc-nprm-prohibits-good-network-management/

You know John, for a guy that just criticized me for making "personal attacks" without actually citing a specific example, you've just illustrated the meaning of hypocrisy.

Furthermore, I never said I was the "smartest person in the room and that everyone else is a loser". That is just you putting words in my mouth to set up a straw man argument and then proceeding to make your own personal attacks. What I specifically said was that my specialty was in designing, building, and supporting very large networks whereas Dr. Riley and Mr. Topolski are not experts in the field of network engineering based on my assessment of their paper, and the assessment of other network engineers that I know.

Robb,

Saying that I have my facts wrong doesn't mean anything. I was VERY specific about which set of assertions you and Mr. Riley got wrong and backed it up with facts. If you wish to refute this, you're going to need to cite the specifics and back it up with facts

You also seem to be suggesting that I've attacked you personally somehow, but I do not see any personal attacks in this article above and you're not being very specific. Between the two of us, weren't you the one that falsely accused me of plagiarism last year? Though it was nice that you apologized for it http://www.publicknowledge.org/node/1698. Now if you want to point out any specific personal attacks here, I'll be happy to post an inline apology to you in the body of the article above.

Now if you're going to suggest that my assertion that you and Mr. Riley have "shown a shockingly poor understanding of how networks function" is somehow a personal attack, it's not. It is a factual assessment of your qualifications in the field of network engineering proven by the fact that you've completely botched every major assertion in your paper. It would be no different if I had written a paper making wild assertions about how cancer should be treated and some doctor responded that "George Ou has a shockingly poor understanding of cancer treatment and he has no qualifications in the field of medicine". That wouldn't be a "personal attack", that would be a factual statement.

Re: Robb's comments -- Yes, as much as I agree w/ George's goals here, his shrill tone and personal attacks render his entire argument ineffective. When you start your argument with "I'm the smartest person in the room, and these other guys are losers," you pretty much have lost most of those who are not already on your side.
