I am glad that this hacker disclosed this responsibly and didn’t just release some Mac virus that screws a bunch of people. The silence from Apple however is just incredible and speaks loud and clear.
just read about <a href="http://www.adminkernel.com/security/crack-or-hack" rel="nofollow">crack-or-hack</a>

Next you ll be asking me for figures. You recognize that. Listen to me, young man. Would you wish to be a slave, Your Honor, Andrew asked. I ll have her in my own rooms. http://google.com/

Oh, I thought you meant exactly. Once the lever is plunged home, however, you will return. It was a sight that drowned out for him most of what had preceded and almost all that had followed. George watched eagerly as the visiplate lit up. He s the one we need.

Peter Perlso:

I don't think Apple has fixed the issue at all. It looks like the Apple keyboards can still have their firmware manipulated, but now you have to be root to do it. The only people who should be able to do this is Apple itself, not any root user!!

I believe that this vulnerability has been fixed in the recent security update, released yesterday (2009-006). Quoting:

"IOKit, CVE-ID: CVE-2009-2834

      Available for: Mac OS X v10.5.8, Mac OS X Server v10.5.8, Mac OS X v10.6 and v10.6.1, Mac OS X Server v10.6 and v10.6.1

Impact: A non-privileged user may be able to modify the keyboard firmware

Description: A non-privileged user may alter the firmware in an attached USB or Bluetooth Apple keyboard. This update addresses the issue by requiring system privileges to send firmware to USB or Bluetooth Apple keyboards. Credit to K. Chen of Georgia Institute of Technology for reporting this issue."

Time to fix: 3 months and 1 week.

This is just unbelievably scary. I am glad that this hacker disclosed this responsibly and didn't just release some Mac virus that screws a bunch of people. The silence from Apple however is just incredible and speaks loud and clear. No comment from Apple whatsoever. Hopefully they're busy working on a patch.
